Wirral Youth and Play Service, run by Wirral Council’s Children and Young People's Department, provides social, education and personal development opportunities for young people aged between 13 to 19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs.
Youth Work is part of the of the "Every Child Matters" agenda which states that young people should be healthy, be safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well-being.
The Youth Service programme provides a Youth Hub in each of Wirral’s four districts alongside youth centres in council owned and voluntary independent community buildings, and in one secondary school. It also operates a wide range of other provision including street work and mobile Kontacta buses.
The Youth Service's information, advice and counselling agency, Response, offers specialist services for young people. It is their first port of call in times of need or crisis, and everyone is welcomed.
Youth Service offers young people access to a wide range of participative arts including dance, drama and music through Wirral Youth Theatre.
The Youth Service holds a licence to operate the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme in each district for young people aged 14 and over, offering young people opportunities in outdoor education.
Youth Service also provides specialist provision for young people with additional needs.
