Organisers have announced that Wirral bands Hippys On The Hill and We Were Beautiful will headline Youthfest 2011, Wirral's first ever 'teenagers only' music festival this summer. The event, on Saturday August 20 at Vale Park, New Brighton, will feature the best young guitar bands in Wirral. Closing date for applications was Monday June 27. The number of young people attending youth clubs and activities in Wirral has risen by more than 60 per cent. A total of 8,625 young people went along to sessions over the past year compared to 5,347 the year before. The winners of an inaugural poetry competition, set up in memory of local teenager Chris Salmon, were announced at a glittering awards evening at Bebington Civic Centre. Judges received 634 entries, with Kim Morgan from West Kirby Grammar School announced as the winner of the first prize in the 16-18 category.
