On Friday 1st June, Wirral will welcome the Olympic Flame to the borough as it travels on its epic 70 day journey around the UK.
Many people are expected to line the Torch Relay route each day and the event in Birkenhead Park will see families and friends coming together to share in the celebratory atmosphere and enjoy the Olympic experience as the torch passes through.
Wirral Council has organised a huge public celebration of sport and fitness in Birkenhead Park to welcome the torch. Come and join us from 4pm to 6.30pm for this fantastic FREE event. 7Waves 92.1, Wirral's community radio station, will be providing music and information on the day, and Wirral Youth Theatre will be keeping the energy flowing with performances, rappers and dancers!
There will be Chinese dragon dancing, a drumming group and belly dancing as well as community stands and stalls. The Lower Lake will be making a splash with 'Hooked on Fishing' displays and demonstrations. There'll be volleyball, football, softball, cricket, Taekwondo, gymnastics, trampolining, zumba, badminton, athletics, tag rugby, tennis, golf and even line dancing!!

There will be some road closures and temporary traffic restrictions in place on the day. Visitors are advised, wherever possible, to use public transport to travel to the Olympic torch relay.

The route the Torch Relay will take through Wirral is as follows:
The flame is planned to arrive in Wirral at around 5.45pm on Friday June 1st. The official route follows Duke St, Park Road North, Park Road West, and Ashville Road, before entering Birkenhead Park at around 6:10/15pm. It will then be carried through Birkenhead Town Centre and Hamilton Square, before being taken across the River Mersey from Woodside on one of the famous Mersey Ferries.
