Get ready for Youthfest 2012

Wirral's best young bands are gearing up to perform for hundreds of their peers at Youthfest 2012.

Birkenhead Park provides the setting for this year's event, which sees eight of Wirral's best 13-19 year old bands facing off for the chance to scoop an exciting prize.

This year's Youthfest comes with a twist: the quality of applicants was judged to be so high that 8, rather than 6 acts will battle it out on June 30.

The prize includes:

  • A day spent at Fallen Industries, recording and rehearsal studio in Upton: prize includes rehearsal time and recording time with Michael Johnson (engineer for New Order, Joy Division, Stone Roses, Pink Floyd and Kraftwerk)
  • A place on the bill at Astral Coast, one-day festival at Floral Pavilion to be run by Bido Lito! Magazine in July 2012

The event runs from 2-8pm on Saturday 30th June, and features a DJ tent and stalls by the likes of Fallen Industries, Bido Lito Magazine and Wirral Council partners.

Each band was chosen following heats at Wirral Council's Youth Hubs, with judges coming from the Wirral Globe, Wirral News and charity The Open Door Centre.

The 8 bands chosen were:

ZINC
ROUTE 22
FOOLS ON PARADE
STATIC VIBE
UNDISCOVERED SOCIETY
23 FAKE STREET
SOLITARY CONFINEMENT
IMMORTAL CONSPIRACY

Following the performances, a judging panel will convene to choose an overall winner. The winners will then return to the stage to play a further set.

Tickets for Youthfest 2012 are £5 and are available from the Floral Pavilion box office (0151 666 0000), from the Youth Hubs and from www.ticketswirral.co.uk.

Funding is provided entirely by the Early Intervention Grant, with support from registered charity Involve Northwest. Youthfest is organised by Wirral Council's Universal Youth Support Service (formerly the Youth & Play Service).
