What is Speakeasy?

Run by NHS Wirral and Healthy Schools Team, Speakeasy is a course which offers a flexible and relaxed way for parents/carers to gain greater confidence and knowledge in what is seen as an awkward subject to discuss, sex and relationships.

Backed by Fpa's (formerly the Family Planning Association) training and expertise resources, Speakeasy runs for 2 hours a week over 8 weeks, and includes the following topics:

• Culture
• Staying Safe
• Contraception
• Sexually Transmitted Infections
• Sex and Relationship Education in Schools

How can speakeasy help?

• Speakeasy can help parents and carers in a number of ways:
• To talk without embarrassment to their children
• To help parents answer questions appropriate to their child's age
• Promote understanding of the schools' sex and relationship education policy
• Help reduce sexually transmitted infections
• Help to make conversations around sex and relationships part of normal life
• Help young people to realise that parents and carers are a source of help, knowledge and information

What's involved as a parent or carer?

• Two hours a week for eight weeks
• Completion of portfolios if accreditation is required
• Participation in all of the course
