In Wirral, one in ten 15 to 24-year-olds tested are found to have chlamydia, the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the UK.
Chlamydia can lead to serious long-term health issues for both male and females, such as fertility problems.
Wirral’s chlamydia screening programme is confidential. If you decide to get tested it will remain private, regardless of the test results.
How can I be tested for chlamydia?
Free confidential urine/swab testing is available at over 150 venues in Wirral, including some pharmacies and schools, and free postal testing kits are also available online from Eazeescreen to men and women aged 16 to 24. The test is simple and painless.
Those who have been screened are notified of their results in around one week, via a range of different methods (including by text message). If the test is positive, treatment and management of the infection is offered to them and their partner(s), including antibiotic tablets. Further information on contraception and other sexually transmitted infections is also available, as well as free condoms.
